Background

The key to elevating any dry herb vaping session is packing the oven with well-ground herb. Grinding equalizes the spaces between your material and helps vaporize it more evenly. Surfaces containing all those precious cannabinoids and terpenes are more evenly exposed to the heat. You also end up wasting less herb since you don’t up tossing any unvaporized bits. All this said, a well-designed, reliable grinder definitely makes a difference in vapor quality.

California-based luxury cannabis lifestyle company; Higher Standards has set out to do just that- create a grinder that’ll make all the difference in your sessions. Aerospaced Grinders (visit store) are made with aircraft-grade aluminum, a precision-balanced head, and strong neodymium magnets. Inside are 55 sharp, diamond-shaped teeth, designed to pulverize the stickiest of material to an even consistency.

Availability: Aerospaced Grinders come in 3 sizes and 2 models- as a 2 pc grinder that measures 2 inches in diameter or as a 4 pc model that’s available in 1.6inches, 2 inches, and 2.5inches. They’re all available to purchase via Amazon.

Design and Build Quality

Made with 6061 anodized aerospace-grade aluminum, the Aerospaced grinder 4-piece is CNC milled from a solid block of material. CNC milling, or computer numerical control milling, is a machining process that employs computerized controls and rotating multipoint cutting tools to progressively remove material from the workpiece and produce a custom-designed product- from the cover to its 55 teeth. Basically what this means is that your Aerospaced grinder is perfectly engineered to ensure that you get the best grind, all the time.

The upper cover or grind plate is fixed to the lower grind plate by neodymium magnets (a type of rare-earth magnet). Even the densest of herb is shredded by the 55 diamond-shaped teeth and falls through to a screened collection area that unscrews from the lower plate. The screen side of the collection plate is capped with a screwed-on kief catcher that also stores the kief scraper- nothing is wasted with this grinder.

Performance and Ease of Use

Optimized double-lead threading drastically improves the Aerospaced’s overall feel in your hand. The grinding action is nice and smooth, and even though there might be just a bit of resistance in the first few turns – there’s not a lot of effort needed to get going. Once you get past the first few, the grinding action just gets smoother. The gripped edges of the Aerospaced grinder make it easier to hold on to while you’re moving too. No more of that excess effort that you need with most cheap plastic grinders.

The result was herb that was ground to a nice fluffy consistency, even at the first time out. The kief catcher is a great idea too and provides good dust to sprinkle over bowls instead of caking into a corner like with plastic grinders. The only downside to the Aerospaced grinder is that it does take a little more cleaning than usual. A few bits of herb would get stuck on the sides here and there- but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a light brushing.

Bottom Line

Basically, a good grinder is any dry herb vaporizers’ best friend. While all grinders follow the same basic functional principles, they’re not at all created equal. Grinders also come in such a variety of materials, shapes, sizes, and are sometimes even electronic.

While it does take a fair level of cleaning after successive use, Aerospaced grinders are of the utmost quality and are bound to last you for years to come. I’d highly recommend no longer spending precious $$ on plastic grinders (whose teeth break so easily) and invest in a higher quality that’s durably built.
