Background
EYCE is a very popular brand when it comes to glass and silicone pipes/rigs, and the PV1 is their first dry herb vaporizer.
Aimed at new users who are making their first step into the vaporization world, the PV1 has a retail price of $79 (and you can use coupon code TVG20 at Eyce.om (visit store) to save 20%.)
Design
The EYCE has a pretty standard design, with the mouthpiece being on one side and the chamber being on the other. Similar to a Pax (review), for example. But slightly larger. It still fits snuggly in my palm and is pretty stealthy.
The housing is made from metal alloy that feels durable and high-end. It has one activation button and a USB-C charging port on the side.
The Mouthpiece
The mouthpiece is located on top of the device and is held in place by two magnets. It is made from metal and has three holes in the side to inhale from. It can also be taken out for easier cleaning of the mouthpiece and airpath.
The Chamber
The chamber of the EYCE is located at the bottom of the unit. The cover is made from silicone, which is pretty unique and uncommon. But makes sense if you look at EYCE as a brand.
The chamber fits around a third of a gram and is made from Ceramic. The top of the chamber is shaped like a funnel, making loading super easy and mess-free.
The PV1 uses a conduction heating system, so the herb is heated by direct contact with the heat source- the surface of the chamber. Just like Pax or any other conduction vape, the PV1 works best when packed with a dense, tight oven. So if you wiggle the device, nothing falls out.
AutoFlow Presets
The EYCE has four preset temperature presets, or “heating profiles.” Each starts at a certain temp and raises 20°F over a five-minute session in order to get maximal extraction.
Vaping in lower temps is known to have better flavor, but higher vapes get better extraction.
The presets are:
- Blue (Low) 350-370°F
- Green 370-390°F
- Yellow 390-410°F
- Red (High) 410-430°F
Having the device itself slowly raise the temp is a pretty smart idea that I wish more manufacturers would have considered. The new S&B Venty (review), for example, has boost modes to bump the temp at the end of a session, but it's nice to see the PV1 has this functionality integrated into the device.
Vapor Quality
The PV1 produces fairly good vapor quality, especially considering the price. It is an entry level vape, so you won't get the same vapor as top-tier vapes, but the EYCE definitely leads the way when compared to similarly priced vapes.
Bottom Line
The EYCE presents a good value for the price. It is basically a larger PAX with fewer bells and whistles, but that gets the job done efficiently.
It will probably underwhelm you if you're an experienced user, but it is an excellent starting point for new users looking to get their feet wet for $80. Actually, less if you use the coupon codes above.
