Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus Review

Background

Lookah has been creating intricately designed, high-quality, hand-blown glass water pipes, bongs, and dab rigs since 2009 and only recently started making vaporizers. Yet, since their first device, they’ve easily become one of the most dynamic brands in vaping. Easily being a manufacturer that never seems to be short of new releases. All their devices of course, greatly feature glass parts and are perfect complements to their pipes.

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus (buy) is the most recent version of the Lookah Seahorse Honey Straw which also has a Pro-only version. The device design is the same throughout all 3 models, yet they differ in size and the Pro Plus is the only one with USB-C charging.

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus features a glass vapor path, a removable glass mouthpiece, a see-through quartz tip, variable voltage, dual-use modes, and a 650mAh battery.

Kit and Accessories

More often than not, Honey Straws come with pretty lean kits with just the bare minimum. But the Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus kit comes with a good number of added accessories, such as a silicone connection hose and an adapter for use with water pipes.

Ergonomic & Unique Design

While most Honey Straws have pen-style designs which make them incredibly nondescript. The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus is still within the pen-style design but is somewhat columnar. On the shorter side – you have the battery and USB-C charging port. This is the side that forms the ergonomic grip – making it so much easier to hold it with a pencil grip while in use.

One side of the device is where the glass vapor path, mouthpiece, and firing button are located. The Seahorse Pro Plus is only 5.2 inches tall, and  1.3 inches wide – definitely making it an uber portable device that won't be a problem to carry around in your pocket or in a small purse.

Removable Glass Mouthpiece & Vapor Path

Glass parts are probably one of the best features you’ll find on any vaporizer. Glass is a neutral material that keeps vapor pure and untainted – and in the case of Lookah, they’ve clearly mastered this material, and is why they feature it so heavily across their vaporizers.

A pretty neat feature not found on too many devices is that the Glass Tube/ Vapor Path is visible, so you can see the vapor travel from the heating element, towards the mouthpiece. For easy cleaning, the mouthpiece is removable and magnetically attaches securely back onto the device.

Compatibility with Water Pipes

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus kit comes with a green silicone tube with one end that fits snugly over the glass mouthpiece, and the other end fitting the included adapter. This adapter fits either 14mm or 18mm downstems and the entire set-up allows you to be able to filter vapor through water – effectively cooling it and ridding it of any possible impurities.

Although it’s pretty cool and useful once you get the hang of it, it is slightly tricky to use since the Lookah Seahorse is hard to maneuver and hold upright while hot and in use. There’s also the possibility of bending the silicone tube which somewhat closes in on itself.

650mAh Battery and USB-C Charging

The Seahorse Pro Plus is powered by a 650mAh battery and is rechargeable via USB-C.  The battery is good for roughly 10-15 dab sessions and takes an hour to charge from 0.

I’m a big fan of USB-C and it’s great to see it on more and more new devices. There’s no need to fumble around for the right side to charge, and USB-C is just a lot more stable and delivers power much faster than the dated Micro-USB seen on older devices and on the Lookah Seahorse Pro.

Variable Voltage and Dual-Use Modes

There are three temperature settings you can choose from, and they’re indicated by the LED ring that surrounds the firing button. Press the button 5x to turn the device on and then 2x quickly to cycle through the temperature settings.

The Seahorse’s variable voltages are:

• 3.2V (Blue)
• 3.6V (Purple)
• 4.1V (White)

Pressing the same button 3x turns on session mode. Session mode is indicated by a flashing light and pre-heats the device for 15 seconds, before holding your desired voltage for 30 seconds. When using the Seahorse Pro Plus on On-Demand mode, I recommend holding the button down for about 3-5 seconds to heat the coil before your first dip.

See-through Quartz Tip & 510 threaded connection

The Lookah Seahorse has a see-through quartz tip which heats quickly and loses heat just as fast. The tip has been made more porous, and more durable than its predecessors and results in vapor that is dense, intense, and heavy-hitting – regardless of whichever temperature settings you use.

The coil is attached to the Seahorse with a 510 thread, meaning you can opt to use the device with your chosen oil cartridge or replace it with any of Lookah’s available coils. Different coil materials yield different results – and Lookah has 4 coils for you to choose from.

To keep the coil free of dirt or lint, the Seahorse has a secure magnetic glass cover that I highly recommend you always place back on after each session.

Bottom Line

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus is a straightforward Honey Straw that is paired with the abilities of glass to produce the best results. Priced at just $43, it’s a great bang for your buck vape – that’ll definitely have you getting the most out of your dabs with very minimal wastage.
