Background
O2Vape is a veteran-owned company that’s based in Michigan. Since 2013, they have been providing decent quality vaping products like 510-threaded batteries, wax pens, and dry herb vapes such as the Dryonic II. They were even one of the first manufacturers of draw-activated vape pens – which is now a very popular feature across several devices.
Their latest 510 battery, the O2 Vari-Vape is a pen-style device that features a single button operation, a bottom dial to control its variable voltage (3.2-4.8V), and a 650 mAH battery that charges via a matched USB charger.
Compatibility: The O2 Vari-Vape is designed to work with 510-threaded THC/CBD cartridges, I used the Delta 8 Cart from Industrial Hemp Farms for this review. Get your CBD cart at 10% off with our code: TVG10
Kit and Accessories
Much like most 510 batteries, the O2 Vari-Vape comes with a pretty lean kit consisting only of the device itself and the matched USB charger. Although, there are a few kit options offered by O2. The slim kit ceramic version of the device comes with an empty cartridge and a metal carrying case while the premium version comes with the same inclusions, but with the cart already pre-filled for you.
Design and Features
The O2 Vari-Vape has a pretty standard design, like most pen style devices – it’s definitely portable, sleek, and fits into any pocket or purse. The unit I tested for this review has a shiny gunmetal finish, with a single firing button- encircled by an LED ring. The LED lights up as you press and draw, and will blink once the device is running low on power.
The base of the device is where it really differs from the pack of 510 pens out there. Most other devices utilize the firing button for cycling through and selecting the current-voltage – which means having to press the same button repeatedly, contributing to wear and tear. The O2 Vari-Vape sidesteps this issue by having a twist dial located at the base. The 6 possible voltage levels (between 3.3 V to 4.8V) are laser printed onto the main device body, while the dial has textured grooves for better grip.
Battery
The O2 Vari-Vape has a 600mAh battery, which is on the high side for battery capacities in 510 pens. It’s definitely enough to last you a day or two of vaping – and it’s pretty easy to just swap out your current cartridge for the USB charger when you run out of juice.
Performance and Vapor Quality
In my reviews of other 510 batteries, specifically those with lower battery capacities – I often say that while it’s nice in theory to have multiple voltage settings, in practice, it’s a little moot. That's because not having a lot of power means more often than not, the battery simply outputs the highest voltage the battery is capable of producing.
But since the O2 Vari-Vape has more to it, I definitely recommend exploring the given voltages and vaping at different levels. Heating the oil in your cartridge requires a high-voltage battery for the best draw, and the O2 Vari-Vape delivers – the results on the mid-high range were smooth, dense, and well flavored. The only reason to really go lower is to preserve battery life.
Bottom Line
The O2 Vari-Vape is a no-brainer to use – simply select the voltage you want by twisting the dial and then press the button to vape. This ease of use, its 600mAh battery, plus the ability to actually explore which voltages work for you are its best features.
It’s a simple, no-nonsense, reliable device from a brand whose expertise lies in cartridges. Giving it a definite leg up from the many many pens out there. It is surely a great addition to any vaper’s arsenal, but if you’re looking for more options and larger battery life, take a look at our list of the year’s best 510 vape cart batteries.
