Background
Yocan (visit store) has made a name for itself as the go-to brand for multi-faceted, easy-to-use devices. Users are definitely spoilt for choice with their lineup of products. On top of having a device seemingly made for everyone- Yocan also has one of the most affordable price points on the market today.
Their concentrate devices range from the uniquely designed E-Nails like the Torch(review) and pen-style devices such as the Regen (review). The Yocan Loki is a button-activated Honey Straw with an XTAL tip, variable voltage, a 650mAh battery, USB-C charging, and a Zinc + Aluminum Alloy body. Much like all of Yocan’s products – one of its best features is its overall ease of use.
Kit and Accessories
Most Honey Straws come with pretty lean kits – and the Yocan Loki is no different. Fair enough, you also don’t really need much to get started.
The Yocan Loki’s kit comes with
- Yocan Loki Device
- Type-C Cable
- Instruction Manual
Compatibility: I used my device with StrawNana CBD dab and Pineapple Express CBD Shatter from Steve’s Goods. (CBD is available to ship across all 50 states)
Design and Features
The Yocan Loki is a sleekly designed device with clean lines and an oblongated shape which flattens out on the sides. It’s topped with an also flat zinc alloy mouthpiece and has a single button with an LED indicator. The XTAL tip is in gold and is a nice little flair to a somewhat minimalist device.
The Loki is definitely portable – its 5.3 inches tall, an inch wide, and 0.5inches thin. Making it one of the most portable concentrate devices out there. Even when accompanied with storage like the CVault – there will still be a lot of space in your bag.
Two Use Modes
The Loki’s pre-set voltages are 3.2 volts, 3.7 volts, and 4.2 volts. Once you’ve picked a temperature, you can then opt to use any of the two use modes: on-demand and session mode.
- On-demand mode: On-demand mode is simply holding the button to begin vaping. It’ll heat up for as long as you’re holding the firing button.
- Session mode: Session mode keeps the coil heated so you can simply dip and go without having to hold the button.
Battery
The Yocan Loki has a 650mAh battery, which lasts roughly 40-50 puffs, depending on what temperature you’re on. When it does die out, it charges via USB-C, which delivers stable power and charges 20x faster than the dated micro-USB.
Performance and Vapor Quality
The Loki has an exposed coil, which means there’s a good number of loading options to pick from. You can either use a dip the device directly in the material or use the dab tool and have either a cold load or a hot load.
Like a good old dab, a hot load is definitely more potent, while a “cold” dab or loading and then heating the coils – results in more flavor and less vapor.
XTAL Tip
The XTAL tip’s main body is in gold-plated stainless steel, while the actual coil has a ceramic outer layer and a quartz inner portion. The XTAL coil is rather large, so it’ll consume a bit more material – I highly recommend using a dab tool during sessions.
Isolated Dual – Air Paths
The at the end of the coil is 5 air holes that lead up to the isolated dual air paths that line the entire side of the device. The air path is kept separate from the electronic parts – protecting you from any impurities and might cause health issues.
Vapor Quality: The airpath isn’t exactly the longest, but it’s enough to cool the vapor. On the lowest setting and a cold load – the vapor is definitely flavorful. If it’s a large dense vapor you’re after, do a hot load with the middle setting. The highest setting was simply too much and produced a pretty harsh, thick result.
Bottom Line
The Yocan Loki isn’t the most feature-filled of products, and it’s not designed to be. It – like all of Yocan’s devices – is simple, straightforward, and affordable. It works, it does the job – and it does it relatively well – especially considering its $40 price tag. It’s definitely a device I would recommend to start vaping concentrates with.
If you’d like to see a similar device, definitely check out the Boundless Terp Pen and Terp Pen XL (review) or something more powerful, like these premium vape pens.
