Background
Yocan (visit store) is a company that seems to never be in short supply of new releases. Creating devices for every kind and class of vaping – from box mods such as the Yocan UNI, eNails like the Torch, and the Armor (review) vape pen. A great thing about Yocan’s selection is that it spans a good number of price ranges, so you’re sure to find something for any budget.
Since options seem to this company’s theme, it’s no surprise that their 510 box mod Yocan UNI line consists of three different models. First released in 2018, the line comprises the Yocan UNI, UNI Pro (view in store), and the latest addition- the Yocan UNI S.
Generally speaking, these devices have a lot more in common than they don’t – they are the progression of the same universal 510 box mod design, and all feature Yocan’s patented adjustable diameter dial and magnetic adapter and varying in temperature control, casing material, and size.
It’s the price point ($35- $50), flexibility, and simplicity of the UNI’s design that seems to make it a very popular choice among users – although, if you’re in the market for something more, we’d recommend that you check out the Vessel 510 Battery.
Compatibility: All three devices are designed to work with 510-threaded THC/CBD cartridges, we used the Delta 8 Cart from Industrial Hemp Farms for our review. Get your CBD cart at 10% off with our code: TVG10

Design and features
All devices in the UNI line are small, portable, flexible box mods that are designed for discreet vaping, anytime and anywhere. It’s also worth noting that they’re all also really affordable, with the priciest one being the Yocan UNI Pro at $50, while both the UNI and UNI S are at $39. The UNI, UNI Pro, and UNI S also have a couple of the features that you would expect from a name-brand device- variable voltage and a quick heat up time.
All UNI devices also make use of 510 threaded magnetic adapters. These adapters are what ensure the compatibility of your cart with the device and also provide a steady flow of power and heat. These magnetic links also make it very easy to remove and change cartridges on the fly- all while locking the cart in place.
As previously mentioned, all devices feature Yocan’s patented adjustable diameter dial which resembles a camera’s aperture. This allows you to fit a wide array of 510 carts/atomizers without any kind of shaking/ rattling. On the outside of the device, there’s a wheel that you turn to adjust to the size of your cart. This eliminates any wriggle room left by the space between the size of the cart and the device itself.
This proprietary feature also works in conjunction with a small sliding switch that can raise or lower the atomizer when it’s inside. There’s also a small window on the device where you can see what’s left of your tank- but I think just pushing it up and out of the device would be a bit more informative, since that window can only tell you so much, and is subject to the height/capacity of your cart.
UNI vs. UNI PRO vs. UNI S
Yocan UNI – The body of the Yocan UNI is made of aluminum and zinc alloy. While it is slightly bigger than your average 510 vaporizer pen such as the KandyPens Special K (review), the UNI is still relatively small and concealable within the palm of your hand. The pre-set heating modes on the UNI are at 3.4V | 3.8V | 4.2V, all of which are pretty okay for heating any standard cartridge- but I would recommend that you stick to the highest one.
UNI Pro – Looks-wise, the UNI pro is noticeably more angular than the original Uni with shallow ridges jutting out at the top and bottom of the device’s front end. Just below the top ridge lies the redesigned power button, which now has a square shape instead of the round shape of the original UNI, and below the OLED screen are the triangular voltage adjustment buttons. The UNI Pro battery’s capacity is the exact same as the UNI at 650mAH. It is also the only one on the line that has a battery indicator – thanks to the OLED screen.
UNI S – The standout updates of the UNI S are the semi-matte finish on a new zinc alloy body, faster USB C charging, and its small size. The device is only 2.4 inches tall, 0.9 inches thick, and 1.2 inches wide. The LED voltage indicator lights sit at the bottom of the front panel, as opposed to the top of the device in the original. The UNI S has a pretty small battery at 400mAH. But it’s enough for the pre-set voltages of 2.5V, 3.0V, and 3.5V
Performance
While it’s nice in theory to have multiple voltage settings, in practice, it’s kind of pointless with the UNI and UNI S. That is because many of these super small, ultra-portable vapes only have a single voltage setting, and with good reason. The reason is that they typically don’t have a lot of power, so multiple settings wouldn’t make any sense, they just output the highest voltage the battery is capable of producing.
So, with the UNI or UNI S, there isn’t really any good reason to choose any other voltage besides the highest one. The only reason why you would want to do so is if you want to preserve battery life. Otherwise, any cartridge you use is best served by the highest voltage level. The preheat function is useful, but only with cartridges that have silica or ceramic wicks. I wouldn’t recommend that you use that function with cotton wicks because they could get burnt.
The addition of granular voltage control gives the Uni Pro a slight edge over the basic Uni. Now you can more precisely select the voltage level you want instead of having to rely on presets. That allows you to choose a voltage level that better fits your vaping style. That being said, you still get a great experience with the basic UNI and UNI S, the Uni Pro simply gives you more control over the experience.
Bottomline- Which one is for you?
The Yocan UNI line serves every vaper well. Generally speaking, these ultra-portable 510 batteries aren’t exactly feature-heavy. The simplicity is part of the appeal here. Other than the signature cart adjustments, these devices keep it very simple and straightforward.
When choosing between the three, all you’d have to do is question what you really want out of your device. For portability and discretion, the UNI and UNI S are it. If you’re looking for more control over the experience and a more interactive interface- the UNI Pro is probably best.
In my honest opinion, the UNI S eclipses the original UNI since it does feel more ergonomic, features USB-C charging, and is a lot smaller. The UNI S does have a smaller battery capacity, but that’s offset by the fact that USB C does charge up to 20x faster than micro USB. All these devices are a great addition to any vaper’s arsenal, especially at their prices- but if you’re looking for more options and larger battery life, take a look at our list of the year’s best 510 vape cart batteries.
