Review Summary

3.5/5

The Stache Grinder is a unique grinder that uses small pins instead of sharp teeth to “crush” the herb instead of “chopping” it. It creates more pollen than other grinders, so this means extra cleaning, but keif is going to accumulate faster, which some users will appreciate. It comes at a very fair price and get’s the job done efficiently.

Background

If you're here, chances are that you know that this Stache Grinder (Grynder) is different than most grinders. Instead of the sharp teeth that most grinders have, this one has small, non-sharp pins. But does it work? We'll find out together in this Stache grinder review.

The Stache retails for $30, and you can use coupon code TVG10 to save 10% at Vape-Smart. That's pretty fair in a world where a good grinder would typically run you around $60-$100.

Design

So the two main parts of the grinder open up to reveal the chamber. This is where I'll place my flower, but we'll get back to it in a second.

The top part has a “secret” storage compartment that can fit at least a couple of grams of herb.

Then, under the middle piece, there is a screen, so the herb is shredded, falls down from these holes, and sits here on the screen, which also opens up to reveal the final piece of this grinder, which is a kief catcher.

The grinder also comes with a little plastic scraper for the kief and a small cleaning brush.

The main chamber

The chamber here is pretty big and deep compared to other grinders, such as the SLX Grinder or Aerospaced.

The large chamber also makes the Stache larger than most 2.5-inch grinders, but I'm assuming they had to do it this way, so the herb doesn't escape from the sides.

The two parts of thee grinder are held together with a small magnet.

Unique non-sharp pins

Unlike most “traditional” grinders, which have sharp cutting teeth, the Stache has very small and non-sharp pins on the top and bottom.

I'm used to manufacturers taking pride in how sharp the teeth on their grinders are, so how is it possible that this grinder is able to chop the herb just as well?

Well, let's find out.

Performance

I can easily turn it clockwise, but when turning it counterclockwise, the cover of the storage container opens up. So I just grip the bottom of the top piece as well to prevent it from opening.

It's pretty smooth and easy to turn, and after around 10 seconds of turning, most of the herb drops down through the holes, but there is some leftover in the chamber.

Just a few taps to drop the last particles, and then I can open the middle piece to look at the herb.

The herb is fluff and seems like a very good consistency for vaping, especially. The pieces are not too small, and it seems like a pretty good grind.

“Chopping” VS “Crushing” the herb

Traditional grinders use straight-edge sharp teeth to “chop” the herb. The Stache “crushes” the herb between the two parts and then breaks them using the small pins.

I noticed that this creates a lot more small particles and pollen than other grinders. I guess that's why they also included the little brush to help remove them from the threads.

As you can see, the grinder is covered with small particles after just 5-10 uses. This means more cleaning, but it also means that more kief is going to accumulate at the bottom of the grinder. So you may see it as a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your specific needs.

With that said, it is easier to turn than most grinders, and I like how I don't need to push my herb into the teeth. I can just drop it in the chamber and turn away.

Bottom line

So overall, for around $30, this grinder is a pretty good deal. It feels well made and gets the job done beautifully.
