Review Summary

3.1/5

The Yocan Regen is an affordable concentrate vaporizer made for the hard-hitters. It includes two different quartz coils that produce intense vapor and big clouds. The vapor quality is good but not great, so anyone who is into flavor over clouds should look elsewhere.

Background

Yocan Regen device

Yocan (visit store) is undoubtedly one of the most dynamic manufacturers we’ve seen in the vaporizer market today – with several products positioned in each class and form of vaping- and all price ranges. They’re the creators of box mods such as the Yocan UNI (review) and eNails like the Torch (review).  With a product line-up as extensive as theirs, each user from the most advanced to those who are just starting out is sure to find something.

The Yocan Regen is a concentrate vaporizer that’s crafted for users who are gaining traction on their vaping journey. It’s simple, straightforward, yet packed with enough features that lend you a good amount of control over your sessions. The Regen features a pre-installed dual quartz coil, the option to switch to a triple quartz coil, three pre-set temperatures, a 1100mAh battery, and a dab container at the bottom of the device for convenience

Compatibility: The Yocan Regen is compatible with wax concentrate. I used my device with CBD dab from Steve’s Goods which is available to ship across all 50 states.

Kit and Accessories

As with all Yocan products, the devices come with pretty basic kits. Though lean, there really isn’t much more you’ll need to start using the Regen right away.  The only added accessory here is the hanging ring which you can opt to screw right above the battery and onto a sling if you want to hang your device around.

Design

The Regen’s design is derivative of Yocan’s other vape pens like the Evolve Plus XL (review) or the Loaded. It is made of medical-grade stainless steel and sports a sleek columnar shape and is a bit wider in circumference than your average vape pen- but it still remains very portable and easy to conceal at only 4 inches tall. The Regen also has a wide, magnetically attached mouthpiece that’s another Yocan signature. The sneaky dab container at the base is also magnetically secured as well.

The Regen’s user interface is also quite simple – it has a single hexagonal power button that also controls the variable voltage selection. Above the button are three small LED lights that indicate the current level the device is on. Basically, this device’s design doesn’t leave much to be said – it’s sleek, clean, portable, and really puts its main feature, the interchangeable coils – at the forefront.

Interchangeable coils

Yocan Regen Performance and Vapor Quality

The interchangeable coils are the key feature of the Yocan Regen. The option to switch between the QDC (Quartz dual coil) and the QTC (Quartz triple coil) gives you more control of your experience and its resulting vapor. These coils consist of a metal wire wrapped around small quartz rods. This coil heats up faster than a ceramic coil and produces thick, dense vapor.

The device comes pre-installed with the QDC coil- which is ideal for smaller sessions. While the QTC coil is suited for larger dabs and holds just over 0.1g of material. The included coil caps also do a fairly good job of keeping the device clean, especially when you have it on the highest voltage.

These coils are proprietary coils that are compatible with the entire range of Yocan concentrate vaporizers. While this device only comes with dual and triple coils, the single-coil is available for purchase on the Yocan website. Their single quartz coils are well suited for conserving wax and preserving flavor, especially at low temperatures.

Temperature

The Regen sets itself apart from the Evolve Plus XL, by having three voltage settings to choose from. This gives any user some added flexibility since the experience changes depending on which temperatures you employ and which of the two coils you use. With 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0v of power available, you have a decent range to play with.

Battery

At 1100mAH, the built-in battery has enough juice to last about a day or two, although that varies depending on which coil you use more often. The battery takes about 2 hours to charge with the included micro-USB wire.

Performance

Yocan Regen How to Use

As expected from a device with dual and triple coils- the Yocan Regen definitely hits hard. The baseline vapor quality on the device is excellent. The taste is good, and the draws are smooth- no matter the size or duration of the hit. Despite the lack of airflow control- the device itself has enough airflow in itself to get a satisfying hit, but not too much to the point where it mutes flavor.

You’ll get the better flavor from the dual quartz coil since the flavor won’t be overpowered by the harshness of the vapor, at least on the two lowest voltage settings of 3.0V and 3.5V. You will get a lot of the flavor notes while enjoying some decent vapor. But if you want a bit more, then you should crank it up to 4.0V, the highest of the three settings. The flavor won’t be as strong but there are certainly some pretty good results

If what you’re after is vapor that is more dense and weighty, the triple coil is right there for you. Although I would highly suggest the use of the triple coil at the lowest voltage settings since the higher settings tend to drown out all the terpenes in your wax and also produces vapor that can get too hot for comfort.

Bottom Line

Yocan Regen Design and Features

Overall, the Yocan Regen is a decent device for anyone who’s ready to make the switch from a beginner tuned vaporizer to a more heavy-hitting one that provides you with more flexibility and options. It’s a sleek and simple concentrate vaporizer that does the job and does it well.

The only downside is that the batteries might not last too long if you’re a heavy user. But at only $42, anyone would be hard-pressed to find this set of features at this price. I’d highly recommend this if you are on the market for a device that’s uncomplicated and straightforward. If you’re on the market for something more advanced, I’d highly recommend looking through our best dab/wax vape pens of this year.
