Review Summary

4.4/5

The Pulsar APX eRig is large, robust, and powerful. The glass pieces are extra-thick, and the unit feels well-made. It uses a coil-less quartz bowl that keeps a consistent temperature and provides good flavor even toward the end of sessions. It provides thick, milky vapor that exceeds other eRigs in the price range.

Overview

The Pulsar APX eRig is a large dab rig that is compatible with solid extracts such as hash, rosin, resin, etc. It retails for $200, and you can use coupon code TVG10 to save 10% on vape-smart.com.

Design & Features

Standing 10 inches tall, the APX Rig is large and hefty. It's made of four main components- the glass base, the body, the heating element, and the glass mouthpiece.

The glass base is large, and the glass is very thick, which gives it weight at the bottom, making it very sturdy.

The glass base has a sticker that marks the water line, which is around a third of its height. Just enough to cover the holes of the 360 showerhead percolator.

The body of the vape sits on top of the glass, and the seal between them is very tight (almost too tight.) I had to use a good amount of force to connect the two pieces together.

The body contains the battery, electronics, and microchip that power this rig. The front has a power button and LED indicators. The housing is made from metal or aluminum and, once again, feels premium and well-made.

The heating element connects to the body with a powerful magnetic connection. It just snaps into place, and there is no need to screw it in.

The APX Rig features a Quartz coil-less bowl, meaning that the heating element sits under the bowl and not inside it. You can see the heating element in the picture below, they show through the quartz bowl.

Coil-less bowls are superior when compared to “exposed coils” or “rods” as they allow greater temperature control and are easier to clean.

The “arm” that connects the heating element to the base can pivot around 15 degrees to the front or back. That allows for the bowl to stay upright even when using the rig while leaning back. Since the heating element is at the bottom, the concentrate will ideally be spread evenly on the bottom of the bowl.

The carb cap of the coil has two air injectors that create a vortex that circulates air in the entire bowl.

The glass mouthpiece connects to the top of the body and has a thick rim, which makes it easy to create a tight seal while inhaling. The glass here is, once again, thick and hefty.

Showerhead percolator- the stem of the APX Rig looks like a globe that has slits that run vertically all around it. This not only looks very cool but also has a function- it spreads the air 360 degrees, which enhances the water cooling and results in tastier vapor.

Terp Pearls- included in the kit are two quartz terp pearls and a special tool to handle them. The terp peals can be placed in the bowl to enhance vapor production and create an even extraction. Only one is needed at a time, and it will swirl in the bowl and stir the oil as it's boiling.

How to use

  1. Place one terp pearl in the bowl.
  2. Load a dab the size of the terp pearl.
  3. Five clicks to turn on.
  4. Click the button to toggle four temp levels- Blue, Green, Purple, and Red is the highest.
  5. Two clicks to start heating up.
  6. The rig will vibrate once it is ready to vape.

Performance & vapor quality

The APX eRig produced very thick and milky vapor. I did not get any burned hits, and it seems as if the temperature control of this vape is top-notch. The extract tastes very good, even at the end of the session.

It has a 3200mAh battery that is very robust and powerful. It heats up quickly and retains the heat well throughout the session.

Bottom Line

The APX eRig performs very well when compared to other vapes in the price range. It is larger than most eRigs out there, but this large size doesn't make it less functional.

It comes with an extensive kit that makes it a pealing for both new and experienced users. For other options, check out my top-rated dab rigs of 2024.
